Vacation route through Saxony-Anhalt.

Straße der Romanik

The Straße der Romanik (Romanesque Road) runs as a vacation route through Saxony-Anhalt and unites the Landkreis Börde with the tourist areas of Saxony-Anhalt. The idea to create the road originated in 1991 and was implemented in 1993. The reason for this was the large number of Romanesque buildings from the Middle Ages in Saxony-Anhalt with its central location in Germany. According to the initiators, one million people visit facilities on the Straße der Romanik every year. The Straße der Romanik runs in the shape of a figure eight, with the state capital of Magdeburg at its center. The road connects the cathedrals, castles, monasteries and churches that were built in the period from the 10th to the middle of the 13th century and thus represent a sign of Christianization. The total length of the route is about 1200 kilometers. Along it there are 80 Romanesque objects in 65 places.
