This is a highly contagious viral disease that mainly affects poultry. It usually causes severe general symptoms in domestic poultry and has a very high mortality rate. Human infection is only possible through intensive contact with infected poultry.
Once the official test results are available, the district of Börde will issue a general ruling with binding rules of behaviour. This will be published on the district's website. It is also planned to restrict hunting of game birds in the affected areas.
Due to the current risk situation, the Office for Health and Consumer Protection of the district of Börde would like to call on all poultry keepers to check their biosecurity measures and to adhere to them consistently. The office must be informed immediately if signs of illness such as shortness of breath, sneezing, apathy or an increase in deaths in the flock are detected.
The public is asked to report any deaths or observations of abnormal behaviour in wild birds by calling 03904/7240-4318.
