The aim of the project is to support municipalities in strategically anchoring sustainability in their administrative structures. The district will be supported throughout - from the SDG assessment to the development of a customised municipal sustainability strategy. This is to be developed by the end of 2026 together with representatives from administration, politics and civil society.
Participation offers the Börde district the opportunity to establish sustainability as an integral part of administrative action. At the same time, a strategic focus increases the chances of receiving funding and improves its positioning as an attractive location.
The district of Börde is the first municipality in Saxony-Anhalt to address the issue of sustainability as part of this project. Together with the cities of Aachen, Lüneburg and Würzburg as well as the district of Reutlingen, it is one of the five municipalities selected for the current project year. Since the introduction of the SDG reporting framework in 2021, a total of 50 municipalities across Germany have already taken part - most of them from North Rhine-Westphalia.
As early as June 2025, an SDG inventory will be carried out in which existing concepts, measures and activities in the field of sustainability will be recorded and placed in relation to the global goals. This will form the basis for the development of a sustainability strategy with specific measures, which will be developed together with the administration, politicians and other relevant stakeholders. The progress of the project is regularly presented to the district's Committee for Economy, Construction and the Environment. The project runs until December 2026, subject to the provision of federal budget funds in 2026. Participation is free of charge for local authorities.
