Börde district to rely on proven DSK method for road rehabilitation again in 2025

In 2025, the Börde district once again carried out renovation work on several sections of district road. The so-called DSK method was used again.

Dr Denis Gruber, Head of Department for the Börde district, explains: "DSK stands for thin asphalt surface course in cold construction. This is a road rehabilitation method in which a thin layer of asphalt is applied to the existing road surface without it having to be completely renewed first. The DSK process is a comparatively quick and cost-effective method of road rehabilitation. A special asphalt mixture is applied in a thin layer to the existing road surface. This method is particularly suitable for lean or damaged asphalt surfaces, for improving skid resistance and for removing ruts."

District road manager Frank Holzheuer also emphasises the advantages of the method: "On the one hand, DSK is significantly more cost-effective than a complete renewal of the road surface. We also benefit from a short construction period. As a rule, rehabilitation with DSK is completed quickly and the road can be reopened to traffic after a short time."

As in previous years, Mr Gruber is convinced of the effectiveness of the process: "The road properties clearly improve and the good road condition of the rehabilitated section can be guaranteed for around 10 to 15 years. DSK increases the skid resistance of the carriageway, eliminates ruts and, above all, extends the service life of the road. The process also conserves resources, as significantly less material is required compared to complete renewal. To summarise: DSK is an efficient and economical method of road rehabilitation that helps to ensure the preservation of our roads while saving costs and resources."

In 2025, a total of 48,174 m² of carriageway was rehabilitated in the Börde district using the DSK method. The estimated costs for this amount to around 400,000 euros.
