The cello ensemble under the direction of Mrs Rita Goos provided the ceremonial opening with an impressive interpretation of Hallelujah (Leonard Norman Cohen). An atmospheric introduction that immediately captivated the audience.
Afterwards, Mrs Litmanowitsch, acting director of the music school, and District Administrator Mr Martin Stichnoth addressed the guests with warm words of welcome. In his speech, Mr Stichnoth paid particular tribute to Ms Vera Kagan, who has led the music school orchestra for many years with great commitment and musical excellence. He warmly congratulated her on her anniversary and emphasised her formative role in promoting young musical talent in the district.
Hannah Meyer led through the varied programme with great aplomb and charm, providing exciting insights into the works and participants.
The mixed ensemble under the direction of Vera Kagan made a particularly impressive contribution with its interpretation of Montagues and Capulets from Sergei Prokofiev's "Romeo and Juliet". The work's sombre tonal language and powerful dynamics were realised by the young musicians with great expressiveness and technical mastery. The haunting atmosphere of the piece captivated the audience and showed once again how effectively Ms Vera Kagan leads her ensembles to cohesive musical performance.
The vocal ensemble "Vocalissimo" under the direction of Ms Agnes Bryja was equally impressive, presenting the folk song Was auf meines Herzens Grunde and the popular gospel Oh Happy Day with great expressiveness and emotion, touching the audience in a tangible way.
The clarinet ensemble under Mr Uwe Blamberg offered a sonically varied and technically demanding programme with works such as Serenade in C by W. A. Mozart, the lively Clarinet Blues by Rudolf Mauz and the rhythmic The Three Kings Dance.
A special highlight of the programme was the performance of the salon orchestra, consisting of dedicated teachers from the music school, who shone with the charming Annen Polka op. 117 by Johann Strauss Sohn. The ensemble's joy of playing and stylistic confidence impressively demonstrated that they not only teach, but also perform at the highest level.
The large music school orchestra under the direction of Ms Vera Kagan was the crowning finale of the evening. The young musicians thrilled the audience with rousing interpretations of Vltava (The Moldau) by Bedřich Smetana (soloist: Melina Vartanian), the famous Hungarian Dance No. 5 by Johannes Brahms and the popular Radetzky March by Johann Strauss Vater. Under the inspiring direction of Mrs Kagan, the orchestra has delivered outstanding performances year after year. Her musical and pedagogical work is not only appreciated by the audience - the students are also full of enthusiasm, never miss a rehearsal and work with great commitment towards such concerts.
The concert ended with a standing ovation and long applause - an evening full of passion, quality and community spirit that impressively demonstrated the indispensable role of the music school in the cultural landscape of the district.
