The office informs the operator of the water body about the results of the analyses. If deficiencies or hazards are identified, the public is warned immediately, for example by means of signs or public announcements. The office also advises local authorities and operators of bathing facilities on compliance with hygiene and safety standards and supports them in taking appropriate measures to improve water quality.
In the event of acute health hazards, such as water contamination, the office is responsible as the lower health authority for coordinating measures to avert danger and restore water quality.
There are 3 EU bathing lakes in the Börde district: Gröninger See, Jersleber See and Steinbruchsee Süplingen, as well as 13 so-called "wild bathing spots", which are monitored on a seasonal basis.
The 3 EU bathing waters are categorised by the upper health authority of the state of Saxony-Anhalt on the basis of the test results with regard to bathing water quality. All EU bathing waters in the Börde district have "excellent bathing water quality". The results of the last 3 years are used for the assessment. The assessment of the other bathing areas is comparable.
