TERRA ARTE - Art from Earth
The project TERRA ARTE - composed of the Latin "TERRA" (earth) and the French "ARTE" (art) - reflects the artistic idea of the symposium: the creative exploration of clay, a material that has been used in Hundisburg for over a century.
The aim is not to produce utility ceramics, but to create contemporary sculptural works of art - experimental, large-format and technically sophisticated. The historical and modern technical conditions of the brickworks, in particular the zig-zag kiln from 1938, open up possibilities that are unique in Germany. Firing with wood and coal gives the resulting works an unmistakable colourfulness and radiance.
Participants in 2025
The following six artists have been selected for this year's symposium
- Dorthe Goeden
- Markus Heller
- Marie Salcedo Horn
- Hanne Lange
- Aino Nebel
- Carsten Theumer
During the four-week workshop period, they will all create sculptures and objects that are characterised by material, technique and artistic freedom.
Organiser and organisation
The TERRA ARTE Workshop Weeks are organised by the district of Börde in cooperation with the Förderverein Technisches Denkmal Ziegelei Hundisburg e.V.. The Office for Economy, Tourism and Culture is responsible for the organisation. Art historian and curator Christine Dorothea Hölzig from Leipzig is once again the artistic director.
Documentation and finalisation
All the works created will be professionally photographed at the end of the workshop weeks and documented in an exhibition catalogue. The works will be preserved as artistic evidence of the symposium and can be presented to the public at a later date.
