Emergency period for all wild animals

The prolonged period of frost and the thickening of the dense snow cover are not only causing problems for people. Animals in the wild are also having a hard time. The Lower Hunting Authority has now declared a so-called emergency period for them.

According to the Federal Hunting Act, game must not suffer from a lack of food. Animals normally find sufficient food in the forests and fields. However, the prolonged period of frost and the thick snow cover mean that they are finding less and less to eat. For this reason, the lower hunting authority, in consultation with the district master hunter and the hunting advisory board, has declared an emergency period for all game species with immediate effect until further notice. This means that species-appropriate and adequate feeding is permitted for the Börde district in accordance with the Hunting Act of the state of Saxony-Anhalt.

Normally, those authorised to hunt are prohibited from feeding game. However, as part of their duty of care, they are now required to ensure that the animals are fed appropriately. Concentrated feed is still prohibited. Hay, straw, grain, acorns, chestnuts, horticultural products and other species-appropriate feed should help the animals to survive the barren season. Kitchen waste, silage, industrially produced feed and the like are not permitted, nor are mechanical feeding devices.

Hunting is also restricted during the emergency period. Hunting on the move should not be carried out. Shooting game is prohibited within 200 metres of the feeding stations.
