New ambulances ready for use in the Börde district

Three new emergency vehicles have been reinforcing the Johanniter rescue service at the Hermsdorf, Wolmirstedt and Angern rescue stations since December.

Longer transport routes, increased deployment volumes and greater space requirements for pre-hospital treatment in the emergency vehicle are increasingly placing greater demands on ambulances.

The new "Tigis N20" box vehicles are equipped with the latest medical technology. They offer significantly more space for the patient and the emergency physicians treating them. The vehicles are also equipped with air suspension and an electro-pneumatic stretcher, which makes it easier to carry heavier patients in particular. This also makes it easier for staff to work without straining their backs.

Jens Sips, Head of the Office for Fire, Disaster Control and Rescue Services: "As the body responsible for the rescue service, we are delighted that our service providers have rescue vehicles equipped with the latest medical technology. These vehicles make the work of our colleagues easier, increase the safety of other road users during an operation and, above all, improve quality standards. This means that the population can be helped even more quickly and efficiently."

"For the first time, we will be relying on Volkswagen for the chassis of the new emergency vehicles. This is a completely new experience in the field of rescue services," says Martin Thiele, Head of Rescue Services at Johanniter Landkreis Börde.

The Johanniter have been part of the rescue service in the Börde district since July 2011 and are deployed for the rescue stations in Hermsdorf (Hohe Börde), the town of Wolmirstedt and Angern (Elbe-Heide).
