Börde district issues second general ruling to protect against avian influenza

On 27 October 2025, an outbreak of avian influenza was officially detected in a wild bird in the district of Börde in the Drömling UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The district of Börde has therefore issued a second general animal health order to protect domestic and farm poultry stocks.

Essential contents of the general ruling:

1. an infected zone is established, which includes the following localities together with the surrounding open landscape according to the annex:

1.1. in the EC town of Oebisfelde-Weferlingen:

Bergfriede, Bösdorf, Breitenrode, Buchhorst, Eickendorf, Etingen, Everingen, Gehrendorf, Kathendorf, Keindorf, Lockstedt, Maschenhorst, Niendorf, Oebisfelde, Rätzlingen, Wassensdorf, Weddendorf, Zillbeck

1.2. in the VG Flechtingen:

Wieglitz, Ellersell, Berenbrock, Dorst, Elsebeck, Calvörde, Piplockenburg, Grauingen Klüden, Lössewitz, Mannhausen, Velsdorf, Wegenstedt, Zobbenitz, Keindorf, Flechtingen railway station.

2. the hunting of game birds is prohibited in the area named under number 1.

3. the release of kept birds to replenish the wild bird population is prohibited in the area named under number 1.

4. the movement of poultry is prohibited in the area specified under point 1.

Avian influenza, also known as bird flu, is a highly contagious viral disease that particularly affects poultry and other bird species. Transmission to humans is rare, but cannot be completely ruled out in individual cases. The district of Börde points out that the measures taken serve the purpose of preventive health protection and animal disease control.
