Deputy Dr Marcus Waselewski welcomed the new members at the start of the meeting and emphasised the importance of their commitment.
“For many years now, the Youth District Council has demonstrated how young people can play an active role in shaping democracy. Those who get involved in the community at an early age learn that democracy is more than just a form of government. It arises where people take responsibility, tolerate differing viewpoints and seek solutions together. The Youth District Council has been providing an important forum for this since 2012. I would like to thank the young people for their commitment and wish the council every success and fruitful cooperation,” said Waselewski.
Young people and young adults aged between 13 and 21 are eligible to participate. In the current legislative term, the Youth District Council comprises nine members. Thorben Nick Rehak was elected as chair of the executive committee. The Youth District Council represents the interests of young people in the Börde district and brings their concerns into political decision-making processes. Furthermore, the council is represented as an advisory member on the Youth Welfare Committee and participates as a voting youth representative in the Youth Forum of the Partnership for Democracy. A particular focus of its work is on implementing its own projects. Every year, the District Youth Council carries out a major project; in 2025, the members combined a tree-planting campaign with a peace campaign.
Young people interested in getting involved are also very welcome between elections. Anyone interested in the work of the District Youth Council, who would like to contribute ideas or help shape projects, can get in touch at any time and play an active part in the council’s work.
On the sidelines of the inaugural meeting, the two outgoing members, Hanka Hofmann and Bero Baron von Schilling, were also given a send-off. Bero Baron von Schilling, who has been involved with the District Youth Council since 2017, was thanked for his dedication and exceptional commitment.
The Börde district would like to thank all outgoing members for their commitment and wishes the new Youth District Council a successful and creative term of office.
