Inclusion Advisory Board in the Börde district – an important step towards equal participation

In order to further strengthen the guiding principle of equal participation in our region, an Inclusion Advisory Board has been set up in the Börde district.

The main objective of the newly appointed advisory board is to advise the district administration and political committees on all matters affecting people with disabilities or chronic illnesses. The advisory board acts as a central point of contact for the practical implementation of the provisions of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD) at local authority level.

The focus of its work is on breaking down physical, communication and digital barriers, as well as on mobility, housing, education and social life.

In keeping with the disability movement’s motto ‘Nothing about us without us’, those affected are actively involved in local decision-making processes.

Details on the remit and responsibilities of the Inclusion Advisory Board can be found in the Statutes of the Inclusion Advisory Board of the Börde District, published on 26 May 2026.

“We are delighted that, with the Inclusion Advisory Board, we now have a strong voice to bring the concerns of people with disabilities directly into the political process,” explains Andrea Watteroth, the Disability Officer for the Börde district.

Members of the public and local organisations are invited to attend the inaugural meeting of the Inclusion Advisory Board and to continue to contact the new board with suggestions, ideas or questions in future.
