Börde district provides information on "First Aid Day" on 13 September 2025

"Anyone can save lives!" First Aid Day will be celebrated worldwide on Saturday, 13 September 2025. The district of Börde is taking this opportunity to raise awareness among citizens and draw attention to the great importance of first aid in everyday life.

"Any of us could find ourselves in a situation where we need to provide first aid. Then every minute counts - and no one should hesitate," emphasises District Administrator Martin Stichnoth. "The most important thing is to act at all. The only thing you can do wrong is to do nothing."

Why first aid is so important!

Every minute counts: In the event of cardiac arrest, the probability of survival without help drops by around 10% per minute.

First aid is simple: just a few simple steps can save lives.

Nobody does anything wrong: helping is always better than doing nothing.

It's that simple - the three steps to saving lives

  1. Check: Is the person responding and breathing?

  2. Call: Dial 112 immediately.

  3. Press: Give chest compressions vigorously and quickly (100-120 times per minute, centred on the chest).

➡️ If conscious but unresponsive: place in recovery position.
➡️ If available: use an AED (defibrillator) - it automatically gives instructions.

The principles of first aid

  1. Preserve life - e.g. through cardiopulmonary resuscitation, stopping heavy bleeding or keeping the airways clear.

  2. Preventing deterioration - securing the accident site, stable lateral position, applying bandages.

  3. Promote recovery - provide psychological support, calm and warmth, have information ready for the emergency services.

Anyone can help - including you!

  • Refresh your first aid skills every 2-3 years.

  • Use first aid apps on your smartphone.

  • Familiarise yourself with the locations of defibrillators in your area.

"Volunteering in the fire brigade, DRK or other aid organisations is indispensable - but first aid often begins in everyday life before the professionals arrive," continued District Administrator Stichnoth. "We would like to encourage all citizens in the Börde district to make themselves fit for an emergency. Because anyone really can save lives."
