Naturpark Drömling

The Drömling is a sparsely populated lowland area of about 340 km² on the border between Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. The larger Saxony-Anhalt part in the east has been a nature park since 1990. The former marshland was transformed from a natural to a cultivated landscape by drainage in the 18th century on the instructions of Frederick the Great. Today, the lowland with the Mittelland Canal and the rivers Aller and Ohre is a refuge for rare or endangered animal and plant species. It consists largely of nature and landscape conservation areas. Nearby cities are Klötze, Oebisfelde-Weferlingen, Gardelegen and Wolfsburg.
