What to do in the event of domestic violence and stalking
- Call the police if the situation is acute.
- Make a report.
- If you do not want to call the police yet, contact someone you trust.
- See a doctor and have the injuries certified.
- Make a note of the details of the incident, such as date, time and sequence of events.
- As a woman, seek protection at a women's refuge. Here you can get advice on further steps.
- If violence has been used, the police can order the perpetrator to leave the home for the time being.
- A protection order can be requested from the family court, for example that the perpetrator must leave the shared home for a longer period or permanently, must keep a certain distance from the injured party or their children and must avoid any contact.
- Civil law protection may be subject to a fee. If you are on a low income, you can apply for legal aid.
- Anyone who has suffered damage to their health as a result of an act of violence can receive benefits under the Victims' Compensation Act, for example medical treatment and treatment for sickness, assistance with occupational rehabilitation and a victim's pension.
