New paths, new strength" - The Börde district launches a series of events for single parents

More visibility, more support, more appreciation for single-parent families. Single parents often bear an enormous responsibility, often under financial, organisational and emotional strain. Yet this type of family has long been a central part of our society: one in five families in Germany is a one-parent family, and in around 85 per cent of cases it is mothers who manage everyday life with children, gainful employment and household chores alone.

Despite this high social relevance, there are still only a few exchange formats, support services and spaces for single parents in our region where they can network, relieve or strengthen themselves. In order to close this gap and focus more on the reality of life for single parents, the Börde district has launched a new series of events entitled "New paths, new strength".

From 15 May, the exhibition "Single-parent families" will be on display in the foyer of the Haldensleben district office. It makes visible what often remains invisible in everyday life: the diversity, the challenges and the impressive strength of single parents.

The exhibition is accompanied by various events. On 21 May at 15:30, "Financial power for single parents" will be the topic for two hours at the district administration office. Single parents have a significantly higher risk of poverty. The talk will shed light on financial challenges, highlight possible courses of action and provide practical tips for greater financial security and self-determination.

This will be followed on 9 June at 15:30 by the 90-minute information afternoon: "Separation, divorce - what now?" A separation poses many questions for families: legal, organisational and emotional. The information afternoon offers orientation, answers basic questions and shows ways in which the transition can be organised well.

This will be followed on 13 June from 10:30-12:30 by the workshop: "Self-care for single parents" A practical workshop that deals with the particular stresses of single-parent families and provides strategies for more self-care. Childcare will also be provided during the workshop.

At the same time, there will be a children's programme for children aged 4 and over, led by a nutritionist who will teach children about healthy eating in a playful way.

The series of events is intended as a starting point. The feedback and needs of the participants will be used to develop further programmes that will contribute to improving the lives of single parents in the long term.

"Single parents take on tasks every day that should actually be shared between several shoulders. With this series, we want to recognise them and at the same time open up new ways of support," says the equal opportunities officer of the Börde district. The series of events is financially supported by the Saxony-Anhalt Women's Council.
