District Administrator Martin Stichnoth explains:

"The funds provided are a strong signal for our region. They create the basis for tackling urgently needed investments. At the same time, the allocation is unfortunately not enough to fully cover all of our most urgent projects. We must therefore utilise the funds as economically and purposefully as possible. We will make the decisions together with the district council."

Background:

Together with the municipal umbrella organisations, the state government of Saxony-Anhalt has determined how the 2.61 billion euros provided by the federal government will be distributed in the state. 60 per cent of this - around 1.57 billion euros - will go directly to the municipalities. The distribution is based on population and area, with financially weak municipalities receiving a supplement.

The money is to be used to reduce the investment backlog in many areas. In the Börde district, the focus is particularly on renovations and new builds for schools, roads and sports facilities as well as the digitalisation of public facilities.

District Administrator Martin Stichnoth:

"We want to get the most out of every euro for the citizens of the Börde district. These investments strengthen our region in the long term."
