On the other hand, the so-called heart pain that occurs during a heart attack can have life-threatening consequences. In the worst case, it can lead to sudden cardiac death or even to the failure of other organs, which can no longer maintain their performance due to the undersupply of blood to the heart muscle.
In Germany, around 47,000 people die of a heart attack every year.
Immediate action is therefore required to increase the chances of survival and prevent long-term damage to the heart. Every minute counts!
Recognising a heart attack in good time can sometimes be difficult, as the symptoms can vary in severity and intensity.
Signs of a heart attack can include
Pressing or burning pain in the chest (often behind the breastbone) lasting more than five minutes, which can radiate into the arms, shoulder blades, neck or jaw
Tightness and pressure in the chest
Pain in the back or upper abdomen (similar to stomach pain)
Non-specific symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, shortness of breath or sweating, which mainly occur in women
If there are signs of a heart attack, do not hesitate to call the emergency services (112).
If the heart attack is recognised and treated quickly, the heart can recover completely.
In the event of a cardiac arrest, resuscitation measures must be initiated immediately until the emergency services arrive.
Cardiac massage is suitable for resuscitation. The circulation is thus minimally maintained and the brain continues to be supplied with oxygen.
Sometimes a few minutes can make the difference between life and death. So do not hesitate. Every one of us can save lives!
