BUNT - The forest has a fever

The Kurt Masur Oschersleben Music School can look back on 60 years of music lessons in Oschersleben in 2026. Founded in 1966 as a branch of the Georg-Philipp-Telemann-Musikschule in Magdeburg, the music school in Oschersleben gradually developed into an independent, fully-fledged music school thanks to the commitment of music teacher Klaus Hoppe.

The music school, which has been based at Halberstädter Straße 1 since 1980, has firmly established itself in the cultural life of the city. The central task of the music school is to provide professionally qualified vocal and instrumental training. Well over 600 pupils attend the music school's instrumental and vocal lessons every year. From the first experience of music in elementary music education (mother/child groups and early music education) to specialised lessons and amateur music-making through to preparation for professional studies, the pupils are professionally supported by the highly qualified teachers at the music school.

The educational programme is aimed at children, young people and adults of all ages and demographic groups. The Kurt Masur Oschersleben Music School thus makes an important contribution to enriching the quality of life of people in the Börde district through its cultural and educational activities.

The highlight of the anniversary year will be the performance of a children's musical by pupils and teachers of the music school. The musical entitled BUNT - der Wald hat Fieber was written and composed especially for the music school's anniversary by former music school pupil and now budding music teacher Paula Schmidt. The musical is about the animals of the forest that lose their colours because something is out of balance.

The music school is pursuing various educational goals with the musical project: on the one hand, the musical is intended to promote interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary ensemble work at the music school. On the other hand, the musical project is also brought into the city's primary schools: in preparation for their visit to the musical, the music school organises project days for the primary schools. Together with the project leader, Paula Schmidt, the pupils will work on songs from the musical and familiarise themselves with the content of the musical by addressing curriculum-relevant topics such as the forest, climate change and solidarity with one another. The primary school pupils will become an active part of the musical by singing and dancing along and celebrating the anniversary together with the music school.

The teachers at the Oschersleben music school will be supported in this major project by students from the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" University of Music and Theatre in Leipzig. Under the professional guidance of Ms Anja-Christin Winkler, the students from the university's music education faculty are responsible for staging the musical. The scenic rehearsal of the musical will take place in joint workshops with the pupils of the music school. The musical will be directed by Bernd Hohmann, Director of the Oschersleben Music School. Bernd Hohmann, who also contributed the BUNTen, is delighted to once again be responsible for a major music education project after many years of extensive administrative tasks as head of the music school.

The musicals project is supported by the district of Börde, which provides the educational framework for the BUNT musical through its music school, and the Kurt Masur Oschersleben Music School Friends' Association, which will finance the equipment for the musical performances.
